Chameleon’s Journey through Pictures

JLC member Jen Collins shares some pictures from her first time as a Chameleon’s Journey counselor this past October.

First night at Camp Thunderbird. The volunteers gathered at their assigned tables to put together bags for campers. Each bag included a Chameleon’s Journey t-shirt and a journal. Younger campers were given a fuzzy white teddy bear. It was many of the younger campers’ first time at an overnight camp. (Credit Jen Collins)

The cabins at Camp Thunderbird were fun to stay in and reminded me of the fun times I had as a child at camp. (Credit: Jen Collins)

Saturday was beautiful. The morning was chilly but by mid-afternoon it was warm. The campers had an activity-packed day with fun activities including canoeing on Lake Wylie, art, zip lining, and wall climbing. (Credit: Jen Collins)

On Saturday night, each group released a lantern into Lake Wylie in honor of the loved-ones they had lost. This was a special time, especially for siblings who came together to support each other. (Credit: Jen Collins)

Chameleon’s Journey counselors also created a memory lantern. This was a special time for me as I remembered my Grammy, granddad and uncle. Many campers and counselors enjoyed the releasing of the lanterns ceremony because campers and counselors were able to see that they were not alone in dealing with grief from losing a loved-one.
