Reid Park Academy Family Nights is a program coordinated around a network of pastors and volunteers including community leaders, non-profit agencies, and school staff to continuously support the students and families of Reid Park Academy. Volunteers assist with bi-weekly planned activities during the Family Nights series to offer student club activities, parenting resource information and meals that help students and parents build academic success.
The Junior League of Charlotte assists by hosting our own activities once a month that are based on national monthly awareness themes and health and wellness goals. JLC leaders including President Whitni Wilson-Wertz, Board of Directors and Focus Advisory committee member TaLeayah Johnson, and Community Impact Council Chairs Malone Wade and Beth Bechhold have devised planned activities for the 2012-2013 school year. Reid Park staff and faculty appreciated our activity structure so much that they mentioned adopting the model for future Family Night activities. In December, JLC volunteers from Kids In the Kitchen and Done in a Day helped make the Reid Park holiday family night a wonderful experience by providing 3 activity stations that included making healthy trail mix in festive bags, creating informative healthy plates based on the primary food groups, and making creative crafts such as drawing holiday picture for 90+ kids. There was lots of energy in the room and a good time had by all.
