Living a Legacy through Leading the JLC
Alicia Morris Rudd exemplifies leadership. As a member of the Junior League for 20 years, she has been a Provisional, Transfer, Active and Sustaining member of the JLC, including spending seven years in the Chicago League.
A native of Charlotte, Alicia was first introduced to the JLC when she was six years old. Her mother, Sally Morris, joined the League and brought Alicia and her sister Jaime to JLC community events and an occasional committee meeting. Sally is still involved in the JLC and is currently serving on the Sustainer’s Board of Directors.
As a Sustainer, Alicia missed being on the front lines of the JLC and decided to reactivate her membership. The League will surely benefit from her wealth of experience. Alicia has been a member of the JLC Board of Directors and has served in the role of council manager for Community Impact Council. She has also served on Education, Training and Advocacy Council and on Fund Development Council. Alicia has also served as the JLC Foundation President. Alicia was first introduced to fundraising serving on our past two capital campaigns and has transitioned this experience into a professional career in fundraising and community engagement as the Director of Community Engagement for the College of Health and Human Services, UNC Charlotte.
“The Junior League has impacted my life in many ways. It has introduced me to women who have inspired, challenged, supported, and encouraged me in all areas of my life. This organization introduced me to a career in professional fundraising and has created opportunities for me to give back and improve my home town. I look forward to working alongside the amazing women of this organization over the next two years,” says Alicia.
The JLC could not have found a more fitting candidate to assume the role of President-Elect. Past President Elizabeth Kovacs reflects, “Alicia was one of the hardest working members on the JLC Board of Directors. She conducted a league-wide survey of our members’ demographics and interests and served as our liaison to AJLI for their membership initiative. She is a passionate advocate for the League, and for the needs of the Charlotte community. Arina and Alicia will make a great team, and I am excited to see the League excel with their leadership next year!”
Alicia is excited to continue to support the priorities of previous JLC Presidents. “Our areas of focus include continuing to strengthen our training opportunities for members, developing and executing a strong, diverse development plan and building a comprehensive marketing and communications plan.”
She wants to continue to honor the JLC’s 91-year history of developing and positioning our members to be philanthropic and community leaders in Charlotte. “Our League has also established a presence of bold leadership on community issues, and I look forward to our Focus Advisory Subcommittee proposing our next community focus area this May.”
