When local organizations need trained and dedicated volunteers, they turn to the Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) and the Done in a Day (DIAD) committee is ready to help.
The purpose of DIAD is to organize and implement community service projects that are completed in a one-day timeframe. Committee members make an immediate impact by providing volunteer support for these short projects with local nonprofit organizations and other JLC events. “DIAD is a really special placement and I am proud to lead this committee,” says chair Olivia Hubert. “Our members form relationships with many organizations in the community and we look forward to volunteering with more partners this year.” Below are some of the events that DIAD has completed in 2021.
Dress for Success Charlotte empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support and professional attire for success. DIAD members sorted clothing to get the Dress for Success boutique ready for clients. Members also prepared clothing and accessories for upcoming Fabulous Friday sale events.
DIAD members worked in the Baby Bundles warehouse to build bundles of essentials that mothers take home when they leave the hospital with their newborns. In addition, Baby Bundles partners with community agencies and local hospitals to identify families in financial need.
Promising Pages works to eliminate the “book desert” and build home libraries for families in need. DIAD sorted through books in the Promising Pages warehouse that were then distributed to students and organizations throughout Charlotte.
DIAD committee members provided dinner for children and families at The Relatives and hosted a virtual game night. The Relatives serves youth and young adults in crisis throughout the Charlotte area.
Through a partnership between the JLC and Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, DIAD is facilitating a diaper drive that will benefit families served by Bright Blessings, another JLC community partner. You can donate to the diaper drive here.
This month, members are looking forward to supporting the Thanksgiving Dinner Drive for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Academy and are collecting items at the League building on Monday, November 8 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. If you would like to support the drive, sign up here.
