Now in its second year, the JLC’s mentoring program aims to make members feel welcome and get more involved.
The Mentor Program pairs actives and sustainers with current actives that are seeking some guidance on leadership paths and/or wanting to straighten connections with the JLC. The committee is currently looking for more active and sustainer members to volunteer their time to be a mentor for other members.
“Last year we had 20-pairs and we’re hoping for that or more this year,” says committee vice chair, Leslie Holmes. “This is a great way for long-standing members interested in leadership to get involved and network.
The program’s kickoff event is in October, followed by events in February and April. The events are encouraged but not mandatory. Members who volunteer will be a paired up with other members and are asked to simply be there for them to answer any questions or offer guidance about placements and/or volunteer opportunities.
“It’s also a great way to meet new people and make new friends,” says Holmes.
Interested members can contact Marsha Thrasher or Leslie Holmes or log in to the JLC website and click on the link for the mentoring program to apply.
Applications must be submitted by September 30.
