Learn more about Lindsey Bowen below.

Q:)  Tell me about yourself

A: ) I was born and raised in Wellington, FL (near West Palm Beach). My parents and younger sister still live there. I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Florida State (Go NOLES!) and did my M.S. in Biology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. After college I was the Head Microbiologist at a sugar refinery.  I then moved to Arkansas in 2016 to be a Quality Manager at a rice flour mill before being in my current role in Mooresville, NC.

Q:) What made you want to join the Junior League?

A:) Community involvement and non-profits have always been a passion of mine. Joining the Junior League of Charlotte seemed like a great way to serve the community and meet new people along the way.

Q:) What do you plan to give to the Junior League?

A:) Hopefully the knowledge I have gained being on various boards and volunteering throughout my life.

Q:) How do you think the Junior League will help to develop your potential?

A:) I think the Junior League will help to hone the leadership skills I already have.

Q:) What is your favorite childhood memory?

A:) My favorite childhood memory is going on our family vacation each summer. Every year we would take a week or two each summer and go somewhere different; one year we got a pop up camper and camped from Florida to Wisconsin for our cousin’s wedding.

Q:) If you could choose anything to do for a day, what would it be and why?

A:)That’s an easy one! It would be to go work in the disease labs at the CDC (specifically the Ebola one). Although I ultimately ended up taking a different path in my career, my degrees focused on infectious diseases and Ebola was my favorite.

Q:) What is your proudest accomplishment?

A:) My proudest accomplishment was when I ran my 4 hour 39 min marathon at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, MN last year. I’d been working for about a year to get below 4 hour 55 min. I slowly progressed toward my goal while training and the stars all aligned in that race.

Q:) Who is your hero and why?

A:) My hero (s) would be all the women I have gotten to work with while being involved with the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas and the Women’s Resource Center in Hickory. My time with both organizations has allowed me to meet some extremely inspirational women that have helped pave the way for us today and are currently paving the way for the future.

Q:) One thing people would be surprised to know about you?

A:) One thing that surprises people most about me is that I used to play Roller Derby in college for the Tallahassee Rollergirls. I was a Jammer. I broke my collar bone and had to quit playing but I would play it again in a heartbeat.

Q:) What are your hobbies?

A:) When I’m not working, I love to be outside on the lake, hiking, or skiing during the winter. Running is also a hobby and I love doing 5ks, 10ks, Half Marathons and Marathons (I’ve done 8!). Also watching all the great programming on Bravo and TLC.
