Member Monday – Mallory Moyer

Meet Mallory Moyer, a Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) Provisional and technical business analyst for Wells Fargo. She loves to showcase and celebrate the abilities of women and girls in STEM fields, as men hold the majority of these roles. Ms. Moyer volunteers outside of the JLC as an advisor for Phi Mu Fraternity college chapters and works as an ally/liaison with the LGBT community in Charlotte. Let’s get to know more about her.

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I grew up as an only-child in Winston-Salem, but my dad’s family has always been in Charlotte, so I have spent a lot of time here. I met my husband, Ethan, our second week of college and we have been together ever since! We were ready to relocate and grow in our respective careers, so we moved to Charlotte in July 2018. I went to college and eventually on to get my Masters to be a university librarian and professor, but ended up using the skills in the corporate setting – who knew? The year or so that I have lived here has been a blessing. We love Charlotte, and have soaked it up since day one. You are likely to run into me at a local event, brewery, or on the greenway around town with our dog, a pug named Millie.

Q: What made you want to join the JLC ?

A: Several women in my life were in the Junior League of Winston-Salem, so growing up, I had their example. Once we got settled here in Charlotte, my plan was to find a way  to give back to the community. The Junior League was a no-brainer, as I knew a few members here and elsewhere. Plus, I was able to quickly make connections and find trusted organizations to support. One of my goals was to work with a food pantry or food bank, and the JLC introduced me to Second Harvest.

Q: What do you plan to give to the JLC ?

A: Aside from volunteering externally, which is a huge part of why I am here, I would really love to give back as an internal operations team member. One reason I chose to seek membership with the JLC is because of the strong leadership team we were able to meet at the provisional member events this past spring. The women who spoke had stories that resonated with me and with my personal goals. Eventually, I’d love to give back to Junior League by holding an internal position. Additionally, I have a strong technology background, so I would be able to assist with technical issues or social media, should any need arise.

Q: What do you get from the JLC and how do you think it will help to develop your potential ?

A: The JLC seems to have something for everyone’s personal enrichment, and I love that! I look forward to better connecting with the Charlotte community, participating in member development opportunities, and networking with some of the area’s strongest leaders. The women I have met so far in my short time with the JLC have been incredible examples. The mentor/mentee aspect of the organization excites me. I want to learn as much as I can so I can turn it around and pay it forward to others.

Q: If you could choose anything to do for a day, what would it be and why?

A: Set me loose in a new foreign country and allow me to observe, converse, and take in all the culture and food! For as long as I can remember, my parents have taught me to use travel as a means of learning. A wise person once said “traveling is the only thing you spend money on that makes you richer”. I have been fortunate enough to see 22 countries on 4 continents. I will check off countries 23, 24, and 25 in the next 6 months.
