Member Monday Spotlight – Audrey Alexander Hood

Audrey Alexander Hood grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and remembers that the local Junior League always played a large role in the community. When she moved to Charlotte, Audrey began searching for a way to get involved in the community and build connections with women who were passionate about helping others. Her memories of the Junior League growing up drew her to the Junior League in Charlotte and it has been a wonderful fit ever since.

During Audrey’s Provisional year, Audrey had the opportunity to meet new members and build great friendships. One of her favorite memories was the Provisional Bus Tour. Admittedly a total history nerd (unsurprisingly, Audrey is a high school history teacher), Audrey had a great time learning about the impact that the JLC has had in Charlotte over the past 90 years.

Along with favorite memories, Audrey’s experience within the JLC has been filled with incredible highs and devastating lows. Audrey has had the opportunity to move into leadership, welcomed her first child and is now expecting baby girl #2! Unfortunately, she also experienced a devastating loss when her father unexpectedly passed away last November. Throughout everything, Audrey’s friends in the Junior League offered love and support every step of the way. “I am truly blessed to experience life with such an incredible group of women.”

One of Audrey’s passions is the Mentorship Program, for which she serves as Chair. Marsha Hankins Thrasher, her Provisional Sponsor, and Leslie Holmes, MDC Chair during her Provisional year, were both instrumental in drawing Audrey to program. “These ladies have always been such great resources for me during my time in the League, and I love how the Mentorship Program helps women currently in the League develop the same kind of relationships that I have had.”

Ironically, it is not a member of the League that Audrey credits as most influential throughout her League career – it is her husband. “He has been my biggest cheerleader, and has fully supported every activity I’ve ever been involved with.” Members may see him setting up for events, picking up items for meetings or putting together information packets. “Because of his support, I’m able to give my time to the League, and that’s a huge deal for me.” Audrey is quick to admit that without him, she would not be able to do what she does for the League now.

Audrey brings passion, engagement, and an upbeat attitude to every League event that she attends. Next time you see her at a Junior League event or out and about in the community, make sure to say hello and introduce yourself.
