October’s GMM Kicks Off the Cornerstone Campaign!
As a provisional last year I somehow managed to miss attending any General Membership Meetings. So when the meeting on October 21 was announced, I was more than excited to finally attend my first GMM.
President Amie Hutchison began the meeting with a call to order. Then President-Elect Beverley Shull did the reflection. The GMM was focused on the JLC Cornerstone Project at Reid Park Academy and included various speakers.
Here are a few of my favorite parts from the meeting:
– Angela Scholl, chair of the Cornestone Committee, spoke about the Reid Park Academy and JLC’s involvement
– The project is designed to identify community needs and provide cohesive services
– The model includes 1) early childhood development, 2) parent involvement, 3) physical and mental health, and 4) social services
– – Our goal is to provide a $1 million investment in the Reid Park community, with half of that investment coming from a fundraising campaign, and half coming from volunteer hours
– Two new placements are part of this project, Second Harvest Food Bank and Girl Scouts
After Angela spoke about the project, a panel of speakers answered some questions and went into further details about their participation with Reid Park Academy.
Closing remarks from Amie Hutchison included some raffle giveaways from Broken Egg Cafe, Flex and Fit, and J. McLaughlin.
