Provisional Bus Tour through Charlotte and JLC History

Every year, provisional members of the Junior League of Charlotte pile onto a bus for the annual bus tour through town. This is always such a fun event and whether you have lived in Charlotte for 30 years or three months, you are sure to learn something new about Charlotte landmarks and the impact and legacy that the JLC has made on the Queen City.

The tour on September 14 was a great success! The weekend weather was beautiful and the streets were filled with runners as many races were happening this same morning.

Seventy-six provisionals attended and were driven around Charlotte to visit nine  historical JLC landmarks. Charlitta Robinson has provided the group with some really interesting facts:

  • JFK attended a wedding of an ex-girlfriend at Charlotte’s own Duke Mansion.
  • One JLC president moved to 4th Ward to help make it a desirable place to live.

Many organizations in Charlotte that impact children received their start and/or support due to the JLC such as the Nature Museum, Charlotte Speech & Hearing, and Teen Health Connection.

Favorite quote of the day from the tour guide: “You can’t tell the history of Charlotte without telling the history of the Junior League!”
