Transformation, Leadership, and Volunteerism. Three powerful words. Over the last several years, these three words have become a part of my everyday vocabulary. So when I was told that the JLC will be focusing on these in 2016-2017, I was excited!
Transformation.
The butterfly is the perfect example. Think about it. It starts out as this slimy thing, it enters the chrysalis, and its DNA is literally changed. To become a butterfly, it must fight its way out of the chrysalis. If it doesn’t, it will never fly. It’s in that struggle where the strength to fly is born, and then an amazing creature emerges. It is utterly beautiful! Fully transformed!
So, how does all of this translate to you, me, the JLC, and Charlotte?
I want to become the most beautiful version of me possible. I also have a need to be a part of transforming everything I touch into its most beautiful version. I think the Junior League of Charlotte offers fantastic programs to help accomplish this through the Mentor Program, Leadership Development Institute (LDI), Get on Board, and Public Policy Institute (PPI).
The Mentor Program partners JLC members with either a mentor or mentee, where they can be developed, or can help develop someone else’s beautiful transformation. This sometimes happens both ways! The Leadership Development Institute assists members in their own transformations as they work to realize their fullest potential as a leader through six core values: Doing What Is Right, Leading Courageously, Inspiring and Developing People, Delivering Today, Building for Tomorrow, and a Passion for Succeeding. Learning these, you and I are transformed into some of Charlotte’s most influential women! Get on Board prepares participants for Board service at any organization. And then, Public Policy Institute offers insight needed to transform Charlotte, and even our great nation, through advocacy. Can you imagine that beauty? Imagine the privilege of participating in the transformation of not only yourself, but others, the JLC, and an entire culture. Wow. Let’s do this thing.
