On January 16th, Reid Park hosted the first Family Night of 2014. Ark in The Park volunteers along with staff and teachers welcomed parents and students to a fun filled night. As a tutor at the school, I really enjoyed seeing the kids and families outside of school! Teachers and volunteers opened up the evening by singing and teaching the Ark in the Park Song. Discovery Place entertained the children with a science show, while parents met in the library to learn more about common core and other expectations from the school’s principal, librarian, and science teacher. The night ended with a huge spaghetti dinner in the cafeteria followed by raffles for bikes and games for the kids. Overall it was a really fun night!
The Junior League of Charlotte will be volunteering on these nights in the future, and will be hosting different sessions for parents that are aligned with the Junior League’s Healthy Family Initiatives as well as other informational sessions. These nights will be part of the Cornerstone Project at Reid Park Academy.
