At the Junior league of Charlotte, Inc. #WeConnect to our members! This week’s #WeConnectWednesday looks into one HARD working JLC woman – Samie Roberts. She not only works hard as a member of the JLC Circle De Luz committee, but outside of the JLC, she’s working hard to help women plan their dream wedding.
Passionate about planning events from a young age, Samie Roberts was inspired by the message of empowerment and helping women when joining the Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. Shortly after becoming a member, she found the courage to launch her own business, Something Perfect, an event planning company focused on weddings. With more than seven years of experience in the events industry, Samie is thrilled to share why she launched the business and the best part of working with brides.
- Why did you decide to start this business?
I’ve loved planning events since I was young. I moved from Charlotte to New York City after graduation to explore my passion and was fortunate enough to land a position at one of the top beauty PR agencies in the city. Working with a variety of nationally recognized beauty and fashion brands, I executed hundreds of events ranging from fashion shows to celebrity parties. While I loved what I was doing, I missed the one-on-one connection of social events. So I decided to launch my own business that would focus on weddings. I couldn’t imagine a better place to do it than my hometown. After moving, I immediately joined Junior League; I was inspired by the incredible women and the message of empowerment that flows through the organization. I’m constantly encouraged by the incredible, influential women I have had the opportunity to meet in this organization.
- What’s your favorite part about being a wedding planner?
I’ve been in the event industry for a long time and love every aspect of planning – designing the space, organizing details, staying on top of deadlines, managing budgets and finally seeing the big day come to life! There is something so special about being a part of someone’s big day. I enjoy working with brides, forming that special relationship and then seeing her vision come to life with my help. Nothing beats seeing the bride smile when she walks into her reception for the first time. To be a small part of someone’s special day is something I feel honored to have the opportunity to do.
- What makes Something Perfect different?
At Something Perfect, I strive to deliver unmatched customer service while serving as a mentor. I pride myself on my ability to listen to each individual bride and execute her vision with excellence. I step in to take the stress and worry of the planning process so you can focus on celebrating what’s most important – marrying your other half!
- What’s been your favorite JLC placement so far?
I am currently in my second placement at Junior League and so far I’ve loved both. Last year, I served as a provisional in the fall and on the Go Kids Go committee in the spring. I really enjoyed interacting with the kids and encouraging them to be active. This year, I am serving on Circle de Luz. It’s been a tremendous experience so far although I have most enjoyed the one-on-one mentoring opportunity.
- How do you spend your free time?
My husband and I love to travel! I’m constantly inspired in new spaces. I’m also a huge foodie so I love trying new recipes and different eats around town. Other than that, you can find me reading, hanging out with friends and family, trying new adventures or giving back.
